Dear Parents,

At the elementary level, a group of teachers and administration has been formed to begin to discuss the purpose of homework.  Staff and administration are beginning to process feedback from stakeholders in our community including, our School Councils, and our School Committee.  We are now hoping to hear from you.

At the elementary  level, we grapple with questions related to homework. The question is not so much a debate of homework vs. no homework; perhaps the conversation around homework might be framed with the following:

  • What is the purpose and goal of homework?

  • What can we glean from the current research about the effectiveness of homework?

  • How can we transform homework so that it's engaging, relevant, and supports learning?

  • What do we believe should happen after the end of the school day to help ensure that students retain what they have learned and are primed to learn more?

  • How can we create homework expectations that are reflective of the supports and time that are available to our students at home?

It’s an opportune time for us to explore these questions and to hear from you so that we can create a shared philosophy /vision on homework at the elementary level. To achieve this goal, the Wolf Swamp Road School Council will review and analyze your responses.  We’ll use the above questions as a starting point for our work, with an understanding that the group will shape the work as we move forward together.

Thank-you for considering sharing your insights and thoughts on this important conversation.  The survey should take no more than 5 minutes of your time.   You will have the opportunity to complete the survey for each of your children at WSRS.
