WOLF SWAMP SCHOOL INCLEMENT WEATHER INFORMATION

During each storm that arises, school staff starts checking road conditions with Police/Department of Public Works, transportation companies and area towns by 5:00 a.m. in order to determine the town's readiness to hold school.  If the schedule is to be altered, we will attempt to make announcements on the radio, television, on our website (www.longmeadow.k12.ma.us ), and over the STUDENT MESSENGER telephone messaging service as early as possible between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m., on days of questionable weather.  Our judgment in those circumstances will be based on the best information available about road conditions throughout the area.  Should you believe that conditions in your neighborhood require that your child remain out of school for a longer time than is announced for the school department, please feel free to make that decision for your own family.  There will be no penalty if you keep your child out of school for reasons of safety.

If Elementary Schools Open One (1) Hour Late:

Students will be allowed in the building at 9:30 a.m. Students will be considered tardy after 9:45.

If Elementary Schools Open Two (2) Hours Late:

Students will be allowed in the building a 10:30 a.m. Students will be considered tardy after 10:45.

Should you have any questions regarding pre-school's arrival on "delay" days, please call and/or email cbeavis@longmeadow.k12.ma.us.

Early Dismissal only in cases of real emergency.  If a storm begins unexpectedly while school is in session, we ordinarily continue school and dismiss the students at the regularly scheduled time.  This decision is based on the fact that most parents would prefer to have their children remain in school rather than have them walking home in the midst of a storm.

In case of a real emergency, early dismissal will be announced on the usual radio and television stations, and an announcement will go out using the new STUDENT MESSENGER telephone messaging service.  PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD KNOWS WHERE TO GO IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING.  In case of an emergency school closing, school staff members will stay at school until safe travel is provided for all students.

ALSO OF NOTE:

Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures:  Parking in the school parking lot to drop-off or pick-up students is prohibited.  This practice may be convenient but it is dangerous.  When parents park in the lot, students must pass between cars and are exposed to the entering the exiting of cars and buses throughout the parking lot.  Some exceptions: children accompanied by a school employee working in the building, picking up a sick child from the nurse’s office.

Arrival/Dismissal Routines:  Teachers are “on duty” starting at 8:30 a.m./morning arrival and until 3:00 pm/dismissal.  Parents are asked to observe these duty times for arrival and dismissal and accompany children on school grounds before and after the designated duty times.  Students with before school duties are allowed in the building generally between 8:20/8:25 am.  However, students who do not have a before school job, should not arrive at school before 8:30 am, as supervision is not available before that time.
